Celebrate the 70th anniversary of National Parks

In 2019 we’re celebrating the 70th anniversary of our National Parks.

It’s 70 years since the 1949 Act of Parliament that established the family of National Parks in England and Wales. Known as Britain’s breathing spaces, National Parks are areas of spectacular landscape which are given the highest level of protection so that everyone can visit and enjoy them.

The Campaign for National Parks, of which the Friends of the South Downs are members, have created an incredible new film with actress Caroline Quentin, star of TV and stage, features the voices of the visionaries of the environmental movement as they describe the early days of the National Parks in their own words.

The six-minute film from Campaign for National Parks, the charity originally set up to establish the National Parks, has been released to mark the 70th anniversary of the National Parks.
